DayZ SA is literally the least "zombie apocalypse" of any zombie apocalypse game I've ever played. As OP said, overgrowth (even if it's only been a year or so since the outbreak there'd be a lot of overgrowth in cities and towns along sidewalks and what not), barricaded buildings that have been broken into, more evidence of military intervention like we saw in DayZ Mod, fire barrels in coastal cities (again like we saw in the mod), and so on. I get that they want things to be organic and real (ie you see actual dead players' bodies rather than dead bodies that are placed as part of the map), but there's SO much that could be added that wouldn't compromise on the organic factor. It's just a big empty countryside with an occasional blood stain here and there. There's no real evidence of an apocalypse. Better polish aside, Chernarus Redux gets the idea of post apocalypse much better than Chernarus + does. The Dayz map looks much better than this trailer and aside from the bushes on every car I don't see what's better.Ĭhernarus + has more polish because it's made by paid developers with a lot of resources where as maps like Chernarus Redux are mods made by the community. There's so many cool spots to visit in the original Chernarus map in vanilla mod now, and there's a lot of new building interiors thanks to the DayZero devs, but it's still about the right size and saturation of towns/cities for 30-60 players. All of that energy should have been focused just on adding interiors to ArmA 2 buildings, updating textures so the houses don't look like something from a 2002 game, and adding a handful of select points of interest that add new places to explore to the game without expanding the map so much that it requires 100+ players just to bump into people here and there.ĮDIT: an interesting side note, the DayZ Mod devs have actually done a fantastic job at adding points of interest like I mentioned. The SA devs put FAR too much energy into adding completely useless apartment complexes (that nobody even goes to because loot is non-existent there), large cities that wiped out the woods in the North, and too many military bases, all of which accomplished nothing more than spreading out the player base to the point where you rarely ever see anyone even on 60/60 servers. Overrun military checkpoints, makeshift medical camps with body bags, wrecked Humvees, junk piles everywhere, fire barrels in every major city, barbed wire barricades, the list goes on.
